Before using the workspaces at Millbank Tower Podium, every student must do an in-person Health & Safety induction. A member of the team will arrange this with you after you have submitted your questionnaire.
Risk Assessment
Your course leaders conducted a Risk Assessment for your use of the space, which was approved Karen Bolan, CCW’s Health & Safety Advisor as low risk as long as some key procedures are followed.
These procedures are what is covered in the Health & Safety induction.
You can read the full risk assessment. If you want to do something that isn’t covered by the risk assessment, it is best to check with us to make sure you don’t need to do an additional Risk Assessment for that activity.
At the end of the Health & Safety induction, you will:
- know where the onsite register is – you will need to sign in and sign out every time you enter or leave the building even if you are just popping out because the register is used to account for everyone in the case of a fire or any other evacuation. Please note: your pass only opens the door; it doesn’t record who comes in.
- know what to do if you or anyone else has an accident, illness or injury – Please notify us in the event of an accident or emergency by calling +44 (0) 7701373101 – all the onsite team are First Aiders, and First Aid kits are located on the communal kitchten worktops, where you will also find the incident book. Please record all accidents however minor as well as near misses – this is really important learning for us to make the space safer.
- understand the studio do’s and don’ts – there are also posters in the studios to keep reminding you, and the importance of all your Health & Safety training, especially:
- manual handling – never move heavy objects on your own and let one of us know what you are doing.
- working at height – don’t use a ladder unless you have done the training.
- electrical safety – to bring any equipment, except laptops, tablets, netbooks, phones and their chargers, you will need permission from your tutor or course leader who can arrange PAT testing.
- know how to evacuate if there’s a fire – the weekly fire alarm test is at 10 am on Fridays, at any other time you should assume the alarm is genuine and evacuate. Follow the Fire Marshals’ instructions and leave the building immediately via the fire exit and down the rear stairwell (opposite the accessible & gender neutral toilets in the rear corridor). Don’t use lifts or stop to collect personal belongings, go straight to the Assembly Point at Millbank Gardens. Anyone who can’t evacuate on their own, should stay at the Refuge Point, located in the rear stairwell next to the service lift, and the Fire Brigade will assist.
